Health Care Point
Between the Order's castle and the house on № 7 Liepājas Street there is an uphill street with a grand name – Pils (Castle) Street. At the end of the small № 3 Pils Street there is a house with an interesting history.
On April 10, 1924, the statutes of the Aizpute General Health Insurance Fund were registered with the Ministry of Labor. Already in the same year, the Health Insurance Fund decided on the construction of the “health house”, why in 1925 a building plot was purchased from the Ministry of Agriculture, and the construction plan was approved by the Town Council on August 17, 1925. In order to build the house, the property was pledged to the Mortgage Bank on December 19, 1925, receiving 10,000 Lats against the pledge. At the meeting on November 25, 1928, the Aizpute Town Council announced that the Aizpute Health Insurance Fund was moving to its newly built house, which was why it decided to install footbridges at the expense of the Council from Joffes House (№ 7 Liepājas Street) to the border of the Health Insurance Fund.
However, the management was not successful, and on January 8, 1932, the Mortgage Bank bought the Aizpute Health Insurance Fund house with a plot of land at a public auction for 22,451 Lats.
In 1935, one wing of this building, which housed a 5-room apartment with a living kitchen, was managed by the Latvian Red Cross Health Care Center for children and school youth, but on January 9, 1936, the Aizpute Council bought the entire property from the bank for 22,500 Lats and on March 13, 1939, for the same amount it was sold to the Aizpute District Municipal Cooperation Association “Aizpute Hospital” for the construction of a hospital. The statutes of the association were approved on July 21, 1938 by the Minister of the Interior Vilis Gulbis. Its purpose and tasks - health protection.
The Purchase and Sale Agreement has been signed by: Eduards Krieviņš, Member of the Mayor on behalf of Aizpute Town Council, Jānis Jirgensons, on behalf of the association “Aizpute Hospital”, Chairman of the Board, who was also the Alderman.
Unfortunately, the then good idea was stopped by World War II.
On the right side of the photo, you can see the building of № 5 Liepājas Street and St. John's Church.
Nowadays, № 3 Pils (Castle) Street is the property of SIA “Kuldīgas slimnīca”, where the Emergency Medical Service is located, doctors' private practices, the Emergency Medical Assistance Point and the Inpatient Care Department of Kuldīga Hospital are located.
