Sakas Street
At the time when the Liepāja - Aizpute Railway was opened, modern Sakas Street was a gravel road, through which it was possible to get to Sakas Parish, Aizpute District. In 1924, this section of the road within the new town limits was named Sakas Street.
The 1930s photograph shows the beginning of Sakas Street and a boardwalk or sidewalk, which was created to shorten the path for pedestrians to the nearby Aizpute Railway Station. This sidewalk crossed a relatively low, wet meadow, which sometimes turned into a small pond in the autumn rains, where a skating rink was established during the winter seasons before the First World War. Compared to the Dzirnavu (Mill) Pond, it had two significant advantages - it froze faster and, as the footpath was lit with gas lamps for the convenience of passengers, this skating rink could be used even after dark.
On the right the old Manor Pub on № 20 Liepājas Street can be seen, on the left - other former manor buildings.
After the Agrarian Reform, the former Manor Pub with the adjacent land by the State Land Fund was granted to the Aizpute Parish Council in 1922, for which the former pub was considered to be a residential house with a barn. It housed Aizpute Parish Council, an apartment and a grain store.
In the distance the tower of St. John's Church can be seen, but behind the Manor Pub the chimney of the Order's castle is visible.
Without turning left onto the sidewalk, but continuing to walk or drive along Sakas Street to the present Liepājas Street, the former Castle of the Livonian Order once opened to the view, nowadays - remnants of the castle.
Today, the former Manor Pub building is the property of SIA “Kings”.
