Entrance to Aizpute State Gymnasium
The photograph may have been taken soon after on June 8, 1931, when the Aizpute District Council entered into a donation agreement with the Ministry of Education, according to which the District Council donated to the Ministry of Education the land plot of the former Aizpute Manor registered in the name of the Council with three buildings on it for school purposes, where the Ministry of Education undertook to open a gymnasium or another educational institution approximately similar to the gymnasium curriculum. Thus, in the 1931/32 school year, Aizpute District Secondary School became a State Gymnasium. The workers in the photo are believed to be digging a ditch for sewage pipes to feed sewage into Tebra below the mill.
Interesting is the warning sign "Private School Road" attached to the tree behind the entrance gate on the left, which was intended to maintain order in the school territory. Unfortunately, this denied access to the usual shorter route to the town center and vice versa to many local inhabitants living on the streets behind the school.
Inscription at the entrance: "No Unauthorized Access"
The entrance gate and fence are designed by high school drawing teacher Jānis Audriņš.
